N8371L 1966 Cessna 172G

My flying lessons had been going quite well when the Camp Fire and winter all arrived at about the same time. I have accumulated about 7 hours of instruction and to date, have made about 30 takeoffs and Landings. All of my instruction has been with my long time friend and mentor, A.J Hyatt Jr.

This is a photo of the Cessna 1966 172G that I have been driving in my instruction flights. The plane belongs to Mr. Hyatt and two other owners. It is hangered at Sutter Co. Airport in Yuba City, CA.

Now that the fire is out and the smoke is gone, we are just waiting for nice weather to continue our lessons.

On the license front, I am going to need a stress test before I can present for a faa medical exam. I will need a class 3 medical certificate before I can complete the "solo" portion of my student pilot training. I will be 65 in March and will then be covered by Medicare. Medicare will pay for the stress test as part of the follow up to my open heart surgery in November of 2017.

So the plan is to finish up the instruction hours, get the medical certificate and solo sometime in the spring of 2019.

More to come!
