Donna May Martin Tomlinson turns 90
On February 19th of 2020, My Mother, Donna May Martin Tomlinson turned 90 years old. We met at La Fornaretta Italian restaurant in Newcastle, CA. The group consisted of 2 of Donna's 3 living children, their spouses, grand children and great grand children. There was a total of 13 members of Donna's family. Donna's oldest Daughter Kathy passed away in about 1980 from Hodgkin's Disease , and her oldest son does not participate in his Mother's life.
As drinks, appetizers and dinner were served, There was a great discussion of the olden days. Donna remembered an old toasting phrase that my Dad used to recite. He probably learned it when he was in the US Navy as a Sea Bee. Mom was able to remember it. She had to be coaxed a bit to recite the ending phrase. here is how it went:
Here is to the breeze
that blows through the trees
and blows the girls skirts up over their knees
and shows that thing that squeezes, sneezes,
and stinks, oh Jesus!
I know it is kinda raunchy, and my Dad was not a real bawdy man, but it was loads of fun to remember Dad and watch Donna blush as she remembered it.
Donna must of had a little too much fun. During dinner she felt very tired and faint. Mike and Ginger took her home and put her to bed. They returned just in time to enjoy the last 2 pieces of Grandma's birthday cake.
A great time was had by all! Happy Birthday Mom, Grandma, and Great Grandma, Donna May Martin Tomlinson
