Losing My Tolerance for Sutpidity

Here we are in May of 2021 after about 14 months of restrictions on our lives due to Covid-19. We now have 3 approved vaccines available for everyone over the age of 16, maybe younger by now. I have had encounters with several men and women who tell me they will NOT get the vaccine. When I inquire as to why, the answer is usually either a mistrust of the vaccine due to the speed at which it was developed, or some conspiracy theory about the vaccine being use for some sinister reason. The resistors seem to be mostly people who supported Trump. I can't understand how something that was accomplished by Trump in Operation Warp Speed is seen as a sinister conspiracy now in 2021. When I argue that we have the vaccine because of Trump, one man answered that Trump wanted to use the military for distribution and because the new administration did not do that, and somehow the vaccine is now tainted. I asked another man what he meant by "conspiracy", he said, "did you know Bill Gates and Dr. Fauchi were room mates in college?" Actually, I did not know that and I am not sure he does either. What would it matter? It seems that we might be stalling out with about 50% of eligible people vaccinated. We need to do better than that to reach "herd immunity".

Here is the bottom line. I defy any of the resistors to cite one doctor who is advocating that elgible adults not get vaccinated. Medical professionals know that these vaccines are the only way to beat this virus. They know that 600,000 Americans died from this virus and millions more got it and many of those have lasting consequences. The odds of getting an adverse reaction from the vaccine is one in a million. Do the math! Do you really want to risk death or permanent damage from getting and/or spreading the virus when there is a sure fire way to avoid it with a one in a million chance of getting an adverse reaction to the vaccine. I know there are a lot of folks that believe the virus was used to accomplish political goals in 2020. I am one of them! That does not mean that I am going to find ridiculous reasons to deny this vaccine that is being distributed by Trump's successors. It is a good vaccine, created and distributed by heros in Operation Warp Speed. Let's do everything we can to promote the vaccine and beat this pandemic.
