Slough House Social at Colusa Landing Update
Greg and his crew finally got everything ready to open and they were able to do a soft opening on Friday January 15. Susan and I went out on Sunday the 17th for our first meal. I had the Burger and Susan had the ham and cheese pocket. Both were delicious. Sunday was a nice day and they had a good crowd both in the dining room and outside on the patio. There were a lot of motorcycles and a few classic hot rods in the parking lot.
We went back out on Friday the 22nd for a second meal. We both ordered the same things and enjoyed them again. I wanted to try his version of "poutine". Poutine is a Canadian thing. It is French fries with white cheese curds on top, all topped with brown gravy. I have had poutine while visiting Minnesota and Wisconsin on business trips. When it was served, the cheese curds were cold, like from the fridge. The fries and gravy were hot. I would rather see everything about the same temp. I don't think the poutine I had in Wisconsin had melted cheese curds, but I do think they were warm. I was also looking for the gravy. It seemed to settle to the bottom of the bowl and puddle there. I think it could have been a bit thicker and it would stay up in the French fries a little better.
All in all, we love Slough House Social. Greg is talking about the possibility of hosting a car show and a striper derby at the venue, once the dust settles. We look forward to many visits to the restaurant in our future. Give it a try! It is right outside the city of Colusa on the East levee of the beautiful Sacramento River. See you there!
